If you’re in midlife and feeling like your body is just not cooperating with your weight loss goals, your energy is tanked, your digestion is off, and your skin just isn’t glowing like it used to… I want you to know: it’s not all in your head.
Your liver might just be quietly crying out for some attention. Yep, that hard-working organ tucked under your ribs is doing a ton behind the scenes — especially during perimenopause and menopause — and it's high time we showed it some love.
This post is inspired by Episode 105 of the Menopause Makeover: Menopause Liver Detox: What You Need to Know. If you haven’t listened yet, definitely pop in your earbuds after this read.
But for now, let’s dig into what your liver actually does, why it matters so much for hormone balance and fat loss, and how you can begin to gently support it — starting today.
Your liver is like your body’s ultimate multitasker. It filters toxins, processes hormones, regulates metabolism, supports digestion, and more. It works with your gallbladder to produce and store bile, which is essential for digesting fats and eliminating waste.
In midlife, when hormones start doing their wild little dance, your liver takes on even more pressure — and if it’s not functioning optimally, you’ll feel it.
And the kicker?
In menopause, your estrogen levels drop — which slows down your metabolism and puts extra stress on your liver. So if you’re feeling inflamed, tired, bloated, or just off, it might be time to tune in to your liver.
I’ve got a personal connection to all this. My gallbladder started giving me trouble after years of pregnancies — and even though I had a pretty clean diet, I started noticing more digestive issues and discomfort. Every time I saw my integrative practitioner, she’d say, “You need liver support.”
Fast forward to perimenopause and menopause — enter bioidentical hormones — and my gallbladder got even more relaxed (thanks, progesterone 😅). We added in some targeted liver and gallbladder therapy, and y’all… things started to shift.
Not just with digestion — but with my sleep, my mood, my skin. Liver support became a non-negotiable for me.
You might not feel like your liver is struggling — but many midlife symptoms overlap with fatty liver, sluggish detox pathways, and poor bile flow.
Here are a few red flags:
Sound familiar? You’re not alone, friend. These are super common in midlife — but they don’t have to be your normal.
Let’s connect the dots here. Your liver isn’t just detoxing environmental toxins — it’s also breaking down and clearing excess hormones.
This is why we can be “on the Trim Healthy plan” and still feel stuck — our body’s inner detox team isn’t keeping up. Supporting your liver helps rebalance your hormones, boost digestion, and make weight loss feel a lot more doable.
Here’s the good news: you don’t need an extreme juice cleanse or restrictive detox protocol. As a Trim Healthy Mama coach and menopause fitness specialist, I’m all about gentle, sustainable approaches that nourish your body — not punish it.
Pick 1-2 to begin this week!
I personally love a simple beet salad with a little olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and cayenne — it’s my go-to liver treat!
If you want to go deeper, I’m leading a Love Your Liver Gentle Detox in April inside Thrive Tribe, my membership for midlife women. We’re not doing anything extreme — just smart, supportive strategies using food, movement, and a few supplements.
It’s all designed with your hormone balance, fat loss, and mental clarity in mind. Because when your liver is happy, everything else starts to fall into place.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, sluggish, or frustrated with your progress — this might be the missing piece. Your liver carries a big load in midlife, and giving it a little TLC can create big shifts.
Start simple. Pick one or two habits from the checklist above. And remember:
Supporting your liver = supporting your hormones = supporting your whole beautiful self.
You are not broken, friend — your body just needs a little more support in this season. And I’m here to walk with you every step of the way.
